Healthy Fare in the Splendor of Outdoors

THE DELRAY GREENMARKET

Do you long for healthy food served in Mother Nature’s finest terrain? Well, now you can.

All you have to do is come to the front lawn of the Cornell Art Museum and you’ll be face to face with some of the finest produce, meat, seafood, cheese, desserts, and prepared foods around.

Welcome to the 26th season of the Delray GreenMarket. This open-air farmers’ market is a legendary part of Delray lore. The season opens October 23rd and with it comes vendors who offer the widest variety of fresh culinary treasures.

It’s perhaps the quintessential place to grocery shop amidst connoisseurs of fine products grown locally and delivered to the market each Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm.

There is other great news this season as well. The Delray Green-Market will accept the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as payment with eligible food vendors. The Delray Green Market is the first farmers’ market in Palm Beach County to accept SNAP. “We are very excited to introduce this benefit to our community,” said GreenMarket Manager, Lori Nolan, “SNAP helps eligible families obtain a more nutritious diet through the purchase of eligible foods.”

There are also plenty of booths selling prepared foods that you can sit down and enjoy on the spot. There are fresh tamales, chicken on a stick, barbeque ribs, shrimp bowls, Paella, Maryland crab cakes, acai bowls, fresh-squeezed juice, exotic fruits, breads, pastries, and more.

The GreenMarket really is splendor in the grass for everyone. There is a playground for children, live music, free parking in the Old School Square garage, and on-site bathrooms. There are also tables, chairs, and umbrellas, with live entertainment each week.

It’s a place where the true meaning of joie de vivre plays out in a symphony of good vibes. “Being at the GreenMarket is so much fun; it’s everyone’s happy place. People are more aware and savvy about what they eat and its origin. Customers enjoy talking to the farmer or chef who grew (or prepared) the food they’re buying. Our vendors love to talk about what they’ve made (or grown) and are eager to give advice about how to cook it. It’s a great place to see friends, or make new ones,” said Manager Lori Nolan.

Lori has been at the helm of this electrifying international food fest for 23 years and is always on top of her game. She invites the most diverse group of responsible, hardworking and sustainable food vendors to share their bounty with guests.

There’s another reason to rejoice about the GreenMarket. “Food that is locally grown is so much fresher than what you find on a grocery store shelf. The eggs are amazing, nothing like you’ve ever tasted – and the produce, seafood, and baked goods are what we consider ‘shopping smart.’”

Some of the vendors coming this year include Jerry’s Here, who sells fresh produce and fruit from Homestead, Southwest Florida Produce, brings farm fresh eggs and produce, Starz Bakery wows guests with New York style baked goods, breads, billinis, bagels, Danish, cookies, and more.

Gratitude Garden has a wealth of organic mushrooms, tinctures, and extracts with immune building and anti-inflammatory properties. They sell organic turmeric, black turmeric, lion’s mane, oyster mushrooms, and other exotic healthy food grown on their local organic farm.

Captain Clay & Sons Seafood Market continues their tradition of bringing fresh locally caught seafood. Expect to see dayboat swordfish, yellowtail snapper, smoked fish dip, Florida caught stone crab claws (in season), and Florida Key West pink shrimp. Freshly caught seafood comes from the ocean to your plate.

Diane’s Fun Food has luscious healthy baked goods that are organic, gluten-free, paleo-gluten-free, dairy-free, keto, and sugar-free to sweeten up your day. Diane is famous for her coconut macaroons, gluten free brownies, and breads.

My Exotic Fruits offers seasonal fresh fruit. There’s dragon fruit, rambutan, lychees, sapodilla, soursop, jackfruit, and guava just to name a few.

The Delray GreenMarket is indeed a local treasure. “I enjoy walking, looking, buying and talking to the different vendors! They were very informative about their goods, especially the mushroom lady! Great products and variety for all! The food smelled fabulous too!” said Cecelia.

Anthony agrees. “The Delray GreenMarket is better than the one in Santa Monica, Seattle, or Zurich. It’s just charming and has local foods, outstanding fresh-to-order pasta, fish, and guacamole.”
And they aim to please.

“The Delray GreenMarket is a wonderful community event that brings out the happy in everyone. We are kid and dog-friendly, vendors take credit cards, and we have handwashing stations located throughout the Market.”

The Delray GreenMarket is indeed a foodie paradise. From artisanal cheeses to baked goods, orchids, flowers, international foods and much more.
Come to where your heart will soar and your culinary desires will be fulfilled.
