I recently attended “Media Day” at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens for the highly anticipated Women Tomorrow’s Golf League (WTGL), a groundbreaking new venture that promises to reshape professional women’s golf. The league will debut with five franchises: Atlanta Drive, Boston Common Golf, Los Angeles Golf Club, Motor City Golf Club, and New York Golf Club. Fans can learn more at www.WTGLgolf.com.
WTGL will feature team-based competition, with each franchise fielding five elite players. Lexi will represent the Motor City Golf Club, a roster that stretches from North America to Europe and Asia — a truly global lineup.
MEET LEXI’S MOTOR CITY TEAMMATES
- Brooke Henderson, 29, from Canada, is her country’s all-time winningest golfer with 14 LPGA Tour victories.
- Atthaya “Jeeno” Thitikul, 23, from Thailand, finished 2025 as World No. 1 and Rolex Player of the Year, already boasting 10 LPGA wins.
- Yin Ruoning, 24, known as “Ronni,” is another former World No. 1 and one of the most consistent young stars in the game.
Albane Valenzuela, 28, born in New York with Swissties, represented Switzerland in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Olympics.
Across the league, WTGL will showcase 25 elite players, including some of the biggest names in women’s golf: Celine Boutier, Andrea Lee, Gaby Lopez, Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie West, and Ina Yoon. With this level of star power, the inaugural season is poised for success.
LEXI THOMPSON: DELRAY BEACH’S CHAMPION
Lexi has lived in Delray Beach for 13 years. Before settling here, she lived in Coral Springs and trained at Eagle Trace Golf Club. Her dedication to the sport began early — she started playing at age five with “Snoopy clubs” and completed her schooling online to focus entirely on golf.
Golf runs deep in the Thompson family. Her father played at UCLA, and her brothers Nicholas and Curtis both became professional golfers.
Lexi’s accomplishments speak for themselves:
• 11 LPGA Tour victories
• Competed in the U.S. Women’s Open at age 12, shooting 76–82
Winner of the 2014 Chevron Championship, defeating Michelle Wie West
• Four-time runner-up in major championships
• Represented the United States in six Solheim Cups
Now 31, Lexi continues to balance family and golf.
She finished 12th at the 2026 Chevron Championship in Houston and is currently ranked #164 in the world. She is also expecting her first child in February 2027.
When asked about joining the WTGL, Lexi told me, “As soon as I heard about the WTGL, it was a no-brainer to join. Any chance when we’re able to grow the women’s game I think it’s our highest priority.” She added that the league’s shot clock will “make it more fun.”

LIFE IN DELRAY BEACH
When I asked Lexi about her favorite spot in Delray Beach, she smiled and said, “I like going anywhere on Atlantic Avenue. We love going to Elizabettas and El Camino and other places.” Her affection for our community is genuine — and mutual.
A NEW ERA BEGINS
The SoFi Center seats approximately 1,500 fans, and demand is expected to be high. With this level of talent, tickets will be limited, so fans should act quickly to secure seats for the inaugural WTGL season.
The WTGL promises fast-paced action, world-class competition, and a fresh team format that will elevate women’s golf. South Florida is fortunate to host this historic launch, and excitement is already building.
The Los Angeles Golf Club and New York Golf Club will tee off on November 8, ushering in a new era for women’s professional golf. I hope fans will come out and support our local star, Lexi Thompson, and the entire Motor City Golf Club.
