For Sandbar Builders, luxury is about more than beautiful houses. It is about creating homes with personality, purpose and a sense of place.
The boutique general contracting firm, owned by Shawn Rich and Jonathan Vergin, specializes in luxury custom homes, renovations, additions and historic restorations.
From Jupiter to North Miami, they help clients create the home of their dreams.
That philosophy is more relevant now as South Florida continues to attract homeowners from New York, Chicago, and California. Many arrive with architectural ideas from their hometown with added coastal aspirations.
“We are seeing a big influx of people moving to South Florida. They’re looking for Florida contractors who know their way around South Florida construction and building requirements,” said Jonathan.
For newcomers, it’s not easy to navigate the construction terrain. That’s because the home building business can be a daunting task. That’s why people hire Sandbar Builders.
“We make the whole home construction process seamless and smooth,” said Shawn.
The reason is because Shawn and Jonathan sit down with clients and discuss lifestyle, design preferences and every detail they want included in their new (or renovated) home.
Each home has to fit the clients’ stage in life and preferences. The questions are varied: are they a young family or do they have grandchildren? Do they entertain or is it a seasonal residence?
Those answers become part of the blueprint.

“We make sure we understand what they ultimately want to achieve. We can help guide them to make the right decisions,” said Shawn.
For clients who already have an architect or designer, Sandbar works as part of the team. For those who need help developing their vision, the company can assist with drawings, design, materials and product selections.
Sandbar sources from local suppliers and international vendors, finding distinctive products and finishes when a project calls for something special.
There is currently a movement away from the white cube minimalistic style homes. In its place people are asking for coastal modern styles with texture, architectural detail and intimate spaces.
“Everyone has their own style and taste. Not everyone wants clean and minimalistic. We’re seeing warmer, more intimate spaces and more detail,” said Jonathan.
Even lighting has become a hot topic.
Sandbar is crafting LED lighting that provides subtle illumination beneath and inside kitchen cabinets, drawers, or built into ceilings, niches and soffits.
In bathrooms it offers a soft illumination, while under-cabinet lighting provides a warm ambient glow at night. A marble countertop or bar can also be lit from underneath.
For Sandbar, technology and design are only part of the equation. The other part is on their relationship with the homeowner.
Shawn and Jonathan remain personally involved throughout the entire process. They attend meetings, work with architects and designers, communicate with municipalities and building departments. They also help clients navigate everything from layouts and finishes to fixtures and appliances.
“We are hands-on from start to finish,” said Shawn.

The relationship does not always end when the final walkthrough is complete.
“We are always available for our clients. We provide ongoing support, preventative maintenance and property management services to ensure the longevity of the homes we build.”
That kind of personal attention matters because a custom home is, after all, personal. “Our relationship with clients is built on trust, honesty and communication.”
One homeowner who hired Sandbar to expand an existing residence was impressed by how effortlessly the process unfolded.
“These guys are unbelievable. They supervised every step, handled all permits, finished on time and delivered perfection.”
Other clients also rave about them. “Sandbar brought our plans to life and surpassed expectations. Their expertise helped us avoid issues and take advantage of features we enjoy every day.”
Their expertise is like a family heirloom. Shawn, a South Florida native, watched his father and grandfather do custom carpentry and architectural fabrication.
“I grew up sweeping floors in a wood shop and working at the bench. That hands-on experience created a love of the industry for me.”
Jonathan grew up in Chicago and began working in construction when he was 17. His grandfathers were craftsmen as well. “The building business is in my DNA.”
Both men hope to spread that construction lore to the next generation. Jonathan’s four children and Shawn’s two have visited job sites, put on hard hats and watched the work unfold.
Both men hope their children will eventually learn the business and carry it forward.
“We want future generations to thrive in South Florida. Our kids are getting older, and we’re looking forward to teaching them the building business.”
That family philosophy extends beyond construction and into the community.
Jonathan lives in Delray Beach, where he was drawn to the city’s small-town feel and beachside lifestyle. His love of the outdoors inspired him to create the Delray Beach Adventure Club, a nonprofit organization that introduces children and families to nature.
The group organizes camping trips, outdoor adventures with kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and fishing. Children learn about wildlife, survival skills, first aid and wa-ter safety. Families also participate in beach and park cleanups and other service projects.
Sandbar Builders also embraces the city of Delray Beach. Last year they were the title sponsor for the Christmas Parade and had a celebratory float. “Delray Beach has given us so much. Giving back is an important part of who we are.”
For Sandbar Builders, that goal includes creating the right home for each owner. They know it should embrace their family dynamic and takes advantage of the Florida light, landscape and lifestyle.
For clients seeking a luxury builder who values relationships as much as results, Sandbar Builders delivers one thoughtfully crafted home at a time. Call them.
