Sometimes the best way forward is to look at the year that was. And, 2024 was some year for Chuck Halberg, President and founder of Stuart & Shelby Home Builders.
After 51 years in the building business Halberg has re-branded his eponymous namesake and is mainly building custom homes in Palm Beach County.
“We have over 20 projects in the works and a staff of 18 people. With the continued influx of new residents to Palm Beach County it is an honor to provide luxury homes to new clients, many of whom become our friends.”
Not bad when you consider that Halberg started sweeping floors at the age of 13 for a Michigan builder. When he was 19 he managed construction projects for three top 200 developers. And, in 2006 Halberg founded Stuart & Shelby Development.
To categorize Halberg is to redefine change. But one thing that has stayed static is his relentless pursuit of helping others.
Though Halberg spends a lot of time supporting many non-profits in the community he has another passion project – his five-month-old grandson Benjamin. If you happen to see his social media pages, it’s easy to spot this tot who enchants his grandfather.
“I am over the moon and in love with this kid. He is our first grandchild and I go see him almost every day.”
It goes without saying that little Benjamin lives with his parents Shelby (founder of Blank Frame Films) and Lauren in Delray Beach. Chuck’s wife and Benjamins “Bubbie” is Pam Halberg. Pam is a realtor at Signature International Premier Properties and also sells Stuart & Shelby Home Builders spec homes.
Besides being a first-time grandfather it was a great year for Chuck, who gives back as fluidly as he creates. The Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce awarded him the Delray Beach Chamber’s Business Person of Year. He also won the Outstanding Community Partner Award for his support of the GBDC Entrepreneurship Institute.
The outer awards warm Halberg’s heart, but it’s the inner expe-riences that deepen his sense of purpose. “I feel like I’m living a dream. I have a job I love, a family I love, and I get to do a lot of giving back.”
You bet he does. Halberg is President of Delray Citizens for Del-ray Police, Vice Chair of the Arts Garage, a board member of the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce and a founder of Impact 100 Men Palm Beach.
Delray Citizens for Delray Police is an exemplary brand of giving back to the community. They support the Delray Beach Police and its community outreach. Co-founded in 1988 by Perry Don-Francisco, the organization provides scholarships for children of sworn officers, special equipment purchases and many other community outreach events.
The events include the Annual Awards Banquet that honors officers with 20 years of service (or more), as well as rookies, officers, supervisors and civilian employee of the year. There’s also a Beach Volleyball Tournament and Community BBQ and the Battle of the Blue Softball Game (Delray vs other cities).
They support a Community Picnic and Heroes and Helpers Shop with a Cop, that gives underserved children a $100 gift card to shop with a cop. The event is part of the annual Holiday Toy Drive that provides gifts for underserved children. “I hope to increase the amount to $200 per child in 2025,” adds Halberg.
Pam and Chuck also support over 30 different non-profits in Del-ray Beach; they include the Arts Garage, Milagro Center, Achievement Centers for Children & Families, Miracle League of DB, DB Library, The Spady Museum, Roots & Wings, EJS Project, Impact 100 Men of PBC and many more.
Halberg also created the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Del-ray’s Fire and Police. Thanksgiving Dinners are distributed to fire and police employees on the holiday. This year 170 donors and 40 people in cars distributed food. The event also funds local nonprofits, feeds over 1500 people, and provides toys for the Annual Toy Drive.
If you ask Delray Beach police officer Gary Ferreri about Halberg, he will tell you he’s a Saint. “Chuck Halberg is a one-of-a-kind man who truly loves to help those in need. He has an admiration for all police and fire personnel that is second to none. He does everything he can to ensure law enforcement in Delray Beach is safer and recognized for their hard work. The generosity and kindness Chuck has shown the community, and the police department, is a testament to his great character. It is often said that behind every great man is an even better women, that’s why Pam Halberg deserves equal recognition.”
Chuck also took his famous Flat Stanley Rides a Harley for Kids and Cops trip this year. He rode for 19 days and covered 7,000 miles on his bike with Mad Dog John Looney and Jean Alepin. They raised $95K to support 15 Delray Beach non-profits.
As voracious as his appetite is for supporting the community, he is equally supportive and hardworking for clients. “We care about our clients and the product we deliver. I tell clients the same thing, ‘The answer is YES…now what is your question?’ As someone engaged in the community our reputation means everything to me, so it’s vitally important we do a great job.”
Those who know Halberg are quick to celebrate him. “Chuck is a go-to guy whose generosity knows no limits. He has a big heart and consistently shows up for good causes, large and small. He’s a model of a good corporate citizen. I find him inspiring on so many levels,” said Jeff Perlman, Executive Director of the Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation. With 2024 a banner year for Halberg, what does he see in the future?
“I hope to continue building quality housing and enjoy more future grandchildren. Giving back is a gift. My parents instilled in me the importance of giving back, and I came from a blue-collar family.”
